It is well known that no two industrial wastewaters are identical in terms of composition. For this reason, industrial wastewater treatment requires thorough preliminary laboratory investigation. This involves comparing the available photochemical treatment methods and selecting the most relevant process parameters for each specific case. Reactors for Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP) must meet requirements that vary depending on the selected photochemical process and the operating conditions under which treatment is carried out, ensuring optimal performance when scaling up to industrial level.
The MPDS Evo AOP photoreactor is the result of extensive experience in the development of ultraviolet light applications combined with state-of-the-art expertise in the field. A comprehensive R&D effort has led to a new patented photoreactor design with exceptional properties, paving the way for the simple, structured, and reproducible development of optimized photochemical reactions for the treatment of industrial wastewater.
The vertically arranged annular photoreactor is manufactured from borosilicate glass and equipped with an inner synthetic quartz immersion tube transparent to wavelengths below 200 nm. This interchangeable tube is available in various diameters, enabling straightforward adjustment of the average optical path length. Depending on the target reaction, light sources ranging from the visible spectrum to vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) can be employed. The option to purge the immersion tube with inert gas prevents potential ozone formation and unwanted absorption phenomena.
The tangential inlet of the fluid to be treated increases turbulence and flow homogeneity while helping to reduce fouling on the inner quartz tube. The possibility of continuous injection of hydrogen peroxide or other liquids or gases, as well as the optional use of a cooling jacket, are additional features that make this reactor an ideal tool for studying contaminant degradation in industrial wastewater.
The system’s straightforward scalability enables accurate evaluation of energy and reagent requirements, allowing reliable estimation of installation and operational costs.
